And even more!
A dancing limberjack doll, a tall tale and a tasty treat are sure ingredients for a memorable learning experience in the French classroom, the kind students ask for again and again each September. It is not a secret that language learning is enhanced through the teaching of culture and authentic experiences: songs, music, dance, legends, heroes, and especially food. In spite of the wonders of modern technology, it is still the traditions du temps passé that continue to capture students curiosity and fascinate young learners for years to come.
The focus of Rigodon is the Francophone cultures of North America from the Caribbean to the Arctic and from sea to sea. While bound together by language, their histories have produced several different and distinct cultures which students will be able to recognize. They will also understand the influence and extent of the French presence in North America through family and place names, architecture, geography and traditions.
Rigodon is an easy tool for teachers. Single-page, reproducible information and activity sheets, accompanied by pedagogical suggestions provide authentic experiences for all ages and levels of student. A CD of songs, a poster and a dancing doll also are part of the program.
